Introduction: The Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA) has been the flagship of the UPA-II government and was probably responsible for steering it to victory in the last general election. Recognizing its tremendous potential to reach the heart of rural India and the enormous goodwill it can generate, the government pushed for maximum implementation of the program in the run up to the regional elections in 2012.

Environmentalism of the Poor

Introduction: Indigenous and tribal peoples, generally the poor and powerless sections of our society, have their own understanding and ways of dealing with the natural world. They have a high stake in the preservation and promotion of the natural environment. Apart from being a livelihood source (food, fuel, fodder, medicine, income from sale of minor forest produce) it also offers them shelter and a sense of security and well-being both emotional and spiritual.

South Asian ECOJESUIT MEET, 2012

Fifty Jesuits, that included the Conference President, one Provincial, 15 theology students and many Jesuits involved directly in the ecological concerns, came together at Tarumitra in Patna from 10-12 March, to reflect upon eco-spirituality and share their personal experiences and concerns on deforestation, pollution, global warming, plight of the poor and the tribals (Indigenous people),  that calls for eco-action today.

SC Judgement on Salwa Juduum

Here is the Judgement of the Hon'ble Supreme Court of India in the petition filed by Nandini Sunder and others in the matter of state sponsored Salwa Judum in Chattisgarh.

Government of chhattisgarh is now fully exposed in playing the dirty game to clearing the area of tribals where lies the best quality of Iron Ore by involving tribals to fight against each other pushing them in a near undeclared civil war like situation.
