Jesuit Social Action across South Asia
JESA : Summer Social Analysis Workshop
JESA in collaboration with Indian Social Institute, Bangalore organized a 14-day Socio-Cultural Analysis workshop from April 14-28, 2008 at ISI, Bangalore. The workshop began on a day when the Country was celebrating the birth centenary of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. Around 36 participants from all over the country participated in this workshop, which gave them the tool for analysis and helped them to understand the reality today from the perspective of the victims of injustice.

Another Social Analysis workshop was also organized by JESA in collaboration with Bagaicha, Ranchi, the Zonal Centre of Central Zone from May 2-8, 2008 at Bagaicha, Ranchi. Around 28 participants mainly from the central zone attended this workshop. Though the major focus was to understand the Jharkhand reality, the workshop equipped the participants with the tool for social analysis and understanding.
Research Methodology and SPSS Learning
An intensive course on Research Methodology for Social Action with a special focus on Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) was organized by JESA in collaboration with Indian Social Institute (ISI), New Delhi for the Jesuits and our associates in India from 21st to 27th April, 2008 in ISI, New Delhi. Dr. Prakash Louis SJ, Dr. Surinder S. Jodhka, Dr. Marianus Kujur SJ, Dr. Rudi Heredia SJ, Dr. Jimmy Dabhi SJ, Fr. Melville Pereira SJ and Dr. Archana Sinha were the committed resource persons for the sixteen participants.
The participants were given solid inputs on Research Design and Tools, Participatory Action Research and Interrogating Assumptions, Application of Design and Tools, different interview schedules and the Computerization of the Data Collected using the SPSS software.
Within the short duration the participants gained a comprehensive understanding of Research Methodology. This course made the participants aware of the need for systematic research which is the base for bringing out any positive changes in the society.
